If I learn the guitar, will I develop callouses (sp)?

I already play the violin, so I was wondering if I will still get callouses if I already play a string instrument and learn the guitar.

If I learn the guitar, will I develop callouses (sp)?
since you already have the callouses, it won't hurt as much when you play guitar.

For me, it just stings a bit, but its not too painful
Reply:you can if you play alot

but i been playing bass for 2 years and havent got them
Reply:yes on the tips of your left fingers.
Reply:It is different for everyone- I play 1 hour a day (as a job) and I only slightly develope callouses. A fellow guitarist plays about the same and has wonderful callouses(lol) they are desired as a guitarist. Another freind of mine only develops callouses on his index and ring finger because of his playing style. Younger people have a harder time developing callouses because their skin rejuevenates and heals faster.
Reply:The strings on a guitar are under higher tension than the ones on a violin. It depends on the action of the guitar, the gauge of the strings (thickness) and whether those strings are made of steel or nylon. You will also develop callouses on your right hand unless you are going to use a pick.
