Can you use a 1000 mAh battery instead of a 730 battery for your nixon coolpix sp digital camera?

And still use the same charger that came with the digital camera? Thanks cause the 730 mAh battery doesn't last long and it's so ANNOYING so I decided to get a new battery!

As long as the battery fits mechanically and is the same number of cells (ie the same voltage), then it should be fine. As mentioned the first guy is totally off base, the mAh rating is the capacity, which will relate directly to battery life and charge time. Remember you are increasing your battery size by 25%, therefore you can expect a 25% increase in battery life. So I wouldn't expect to go from "doesn't last worth a damn" to "lasts all day long". Charge time will increase as well, by at least 25%, possibly more.
Reply:usually chargers for lithium ion batteries do a voltage test as the current is assumed at the proper voltage, the storage capacity shouldn't matter. The charger indeed has a larger draw for a longer period of time so you may notice a longer charging time but the battery packs IC or the cameras charging circuit will know when your pack has reached the proper voltage.





The answer above by the way is completely wrong because A/h and mAh ratings are mathematically relative to the drain of yoru device. A battery with a higher mAh rating will indeed last longer per charge a way to find out just roughly how long you would use the equation...

Reply:This rating means that the battery USES 1000 mAh of power 730 mAh of power so it may work in your camera and you charger may charge it (if the charger is rated this high) but it won't last any longer.





This rating just means it has the power to run a more powerful camera then the one you have.
Reply:Good question. My camera came with a 650mAh battery, but I just ordered a pair of 1200mAh batteries! Like 2/3 said, as long as it's physically the same and the voltage matches you should be fine.
