What is the difference between a poodle and bichon frise (sp?)?

I have an incredibly sweet tiny toy poodle who loves to play and be silly. I am looking for a smaller playmate for him. Should I just be looking at poodles or should I be looking at other breeds too?

Disposition is really important, much more so than physical characteristics. My dog is purebred but he is far from a show dog.

What is the difference between a poodle and bichon frise (sp?)?
I think any breed you desire will be okay. I have always had cocker spaniels and I decided to get a miniature dachshund...the two get a long great despite the size difference. A poodle and bichon are very different..the only thing that you can consider common is the hair...curly and non shedding. I think a bichon and poodle would compliment each other. But getting another poodle is great too. Go to AKC.com and look at other breeds...read about them and decide if you want something other than a poodle. Otherwise..there is nothing wrong with getting the same breed you have now. Good luck!
Reply:Almost all toy breeds act the same. It's only that some are excited and love to have training lessons, while others are relaxed, plain couch potatoes that don't care what happens for the day, or are always on the move and following you around. Some shed. Some don't. After all, there are toy breeds in size that are otherwise in the terrier group. Except for the Boston Terrier and some of the nicer ones, I'd stay out of that category. After all, you can see or imagine why the Spitz dogs might bark, but the Poodles don't. Most toy breeds shed some.
Reply:you can look at any dog to be a playmate to your poodle. as long as the two get along, there will be no problem. Whoever told you that poodles only get along with poodles lied. About the poodle and a bichon frise, bichon frises' hair is not as curly, and they have a different body structure.
Reply:How about a Maltese? They generally weigh around 5 pounds and are awesome pets. They love to go for walks, play, go for drives, usually get along with other pets great, and also love affection and sitting on your lap.

They also have the bonus of being hypo allergenic and non-shedding. Low odor.

they do need a lot of grooming if you let their hair grow but if you keep it shorter it's lower maintenance.
Reply:Go for a Bichon they are great pets, excellent temprament. Be careful with Maltese as they are a terrier and such can carry that personality.

A number of Maltese I have owned as well as friends have held personal grudges against people/pets for no apparent reason!

Bichons- never heard a bad thing about them! SO playful, love every person and every animal and they dont yap! I have one myself- she is fantastic.

Highly recommend!
