In a crochet pattern what does dc in same sp mean?

Assuming you have a basic knowledge of crochet, it means to double crochet in the same space.

So, does the chain 3 start a new row? Generally these would be the instructions for a new row. Having completed the stitch, you chain 3 and double crochet in the stitch from which the chain 3 originated. The chain 3 counts as your first double crochet for the new row.

In a granny square pattern you would chain 3 after forming your ring and the subsequent double crochet would also be in that ring.

In a shell pattern there would be a series of double crochets followed by a chain and the subsequent double crochet would be in the same stich the previous stiches were worked. For instance 3dc chain 3, 3dc in same sp.

This is somewhat difficult not knowing what specifically you're working.

I hope this helps!

dc = double crochet

sp = space

"...double crochet in the same space as the last stitch..."
Reply:You dc at the base of the ch 3, which is occupying the same space. You are correct. I hope you like crocheting as much as I do. It is a great stress reducer. There are soooo many sites that offer free patterns and advice. You can also sign up with crochet groups on Yahoo.
